There are a lot of people who have something to leave to the next generation. And many who have even more inheritance to leave than their children will „need“. What an opportunity. This surplus inheritance could change the world. At least a little.
And if many of us help just a little, many can be helped.

This is what it is all about – every person is able to retain their dignity if their human rights are guaranteed.

What a privilege for each and all of us to be able to help without endangering our freedom, our health, our lives. All we need is the will to help. Sometimes it’s just a mouseclick or two to transfer some money from our account to that of the Human Rights Foundation.

Please do!

Thinking beyond today – why your money is well invested in our foundation

As a funding foundation, the Foundation for Human Rights complements the work of Amnesty International. Why should I entrust this foundation with my money? The Board of Management member Peter Franck explains the special advantages of endowments, receiving assets and contributing long-term interest – for human rights lasting into the future.

You can do this:

Endowments and donations also bring tax benefits

Donations and Contributions

Endowments

Endowments flow into the stock assets of the Foundation. This means they are not used directly for the purpose of the articles of association but are initially invested safely and profitably. Only the income is then available for the charitable purposes. This aids the Foundation’s sustainability concept, allowing the basic assets of the Foundation to remain solid.

Donations

In contrast to an endowment, a donation must be used promptly – within two years – for the foundation’s charitable purposes.

The Human Rights Foundation is recognised as a non-profit. Your donations are therefore tax-deductible. You can donate or contribute up to 20 percent of the total amount of your income in each calendar year and record this amount as tax-reducing special expenses. Deductible grants that exceed this amount or cannot be taken into account in the year of the grant may be deducted as special expenses within the limits of the maximum amounts in the following years.

In addition, you can claim contributions for tax purposes in the year of the grant and in the following nine years up to a total amount of one million euros. This deduction is possible in addition to the above-mentioned donation deduction. In the case of married couples, the deduction amount applies to each spouse individually.

Loans help support human rights activists. This is a largely unknown avenue of aid.

Donor Loan

With a donor loan, you can leave us an amount and we use the earnings to pursue our charitable purposes – but you receive it back from us in the event of changed financial circumstances or plans.

This gives you the good feeling of supporting our fight for human rights during your lifetime, and you are still protected for everything life throws at you. Because no one knows whether they will need care in old age or which larger sums they might still require.

A Meaningful Legacy: Wills for Human Rights

Will and Inheritance

Many people are moved by the desire to shape the future beyond their own lives and to support an idea that is close to their hearts – the observance of human rights.

You can leave your assets – or part of them – in your will to benefit our foundation. Legacies, inheritances or gifts to the Foundation for Human Rights are tax-exempt, as the Foundation is recognised as a non-profit organisation. In this way, your legacy can fully benefit human rights work.

Any heir or recipient who makes a donation to an existing foundation in the form of an endowment, within 24 months of receiving their inheritance or gift, will receive a refund of the inheritance or gift taxes already paid.
